It’s the time of year for giving thanks, and we, at Makofsky Valente Law Group, want you to know that we are thankful for you. Thanksgiving is also a wonderful time to reconnect with family, but sometimes reconnecting can be a bit eye-opening, especially if you haven’t seen family members in some time. As you sit around the dinner table, you may notice changes in behavior or limitations in physical ability that hadn’t been there before. Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks, but it is also an excellent time to reassess your future and that of your family.
So, while giving thanks, also consider asking some questions… Is mom and dad’s estate and disability plan up to date? Is yours? Do your parents need extra help in the home? Is it time to execute a health care proxy or power of attorney? When have you last reviewed your previously executed documents? Is everything up to date? Are mom and dad’s assets protected? Are yours? (We know these can be difficult topics – but when better to have the discussion than over a good meal? And you can always time the conversation to coincide with the pie.)
