Here at Makofsky Valente Law Group, P.C. we are all looking forward to Thanksgiving this year. Many will finally gather again with family and friends to satiate their appetites for turkey, stuffing, sides and those many delicious and plentiful deserts.
Thanksgiving is a time for families to gather around the Thanksgiving table, spending time reconnecting and enjoying one another. It is a time for good food, good conversation and catching up with those we do not see often enough. We have noticed within our own families that sometimes when you do not visit with relatives or friends frequently, changes in personality or physical ability are more apparent.
The Thanksgiving table sometimes turns into a time of reassessment. Does it seem like Mom and Dad need more help at home? Is their estate and disability plan up to date? Is yours? Maybe it is time to sign a Power of Attorney or a Health Care Proxy. Should some thought be given to protecting assets from the costs of long-term care?
