Like you, we are incessantly washing our hands, using disinfectant wipes and practicing social distancing. We are feeling the anxiety of our clients, our families and our friends. Nevertheless, we at Makofsky Valente Law Group, P.C. are a team of problem solvers and by the beginning of this week, we transformed our office to one where each of us is working remotely and safely at home.

We hope everyone is safe and feeling well during this uncertain time. These are anxiety ridden days and probably will continue to be so in the weeks to come.

The digital assets of a deceased person are difficult to access. In 2016, the New York State Legislature enacted Article 13-A of the Estates Powers and Trusts Law titled “Administration of Digital Assets.”

Online resources and digital assets are important to all of us. As we become more dependent on what the internet affords, we are more concerned about potential security breaches which could expose private and sensitive information.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn…we all love to post fun pictures of our family vacations and announce major events in our lives; but what happens to all of our pictures and posts after we die?

While sitting in traffic waiting for the light to turn, I noticed the white Honda SUV in front of me sporting a bumper sticker:

“When I die I’m leaving everything to the dog.”

It made me chuckle; a suburban mom declaring her pooch as the object of her ultimate affection.
